It has gotten to be some time since I wrote you news from Nepal last. I might do so now enjoy:

Most preparations of soil, i.e. retaining wall and excavation, are concluded and the construction of the first houses has been initiated. Last week we had a celebration and a ceremony to assure the quality of our buildings, this was carried out according to Hindu traditions. As the project has encountered some set-backs it’s nice to introduce some festive happenings to our work as well.

Once more a brief summary of our little construction-project is at hand.

Another few weeks have passed by and another few events have occurred. At the construction-site the workers are deployed and preparation of soil and digging for fundament has been initiated. Unfortunately the country is experiencing lack of fuel, thus all things that get transported using fuel. There have been some changes to the material-specifications so that we use material that can actually be acquired (easier that way). In the end the quality of houses will not suffer.

I might start this news off be apologizing for not posting the first part about the project to all employees at XDIN. Furthermore: writing in Swedish bad manners on my part! Remember: forgiveness is a virtue.

To bring those who missed out up to speed I'll make a short summary: We're building 3 houses of which 2 will serve as home for 60 kids and the 3:rd will be used for school and administration. We've just selected Contractor to make the buildings as described in drawings submitted to them. (That was basically it back then).

So, what's happened since last time around?

As the initial designer has been replaced by another company some question-marks have arisen. As some land-slide might occur at the property the opinion that the foundation needs to be reinforced has been expressed. Så följer en första rapport om hur jobbet fortskrider med byggandet av de 3 nya hus där CWCN kommer bedriva sin verksamhet i Kathmandu framöver.

Kan nämnas att livet här i Kathmandu på knappt fåtalet sätt påminner om det i Göteborg. El och sånt funkar bara från och till och första upploppet kom efter en vecka¿

Vad gör vi: Två av husen är avsedda att ge boende åt pojkar respektive flickor (totalt 60 barn). I det tredje huset kommer det bedrivas utbildning för att ge barnen en bättre framtid.

Xdin skickar konsult till Nepal för ett annorlunda uppdrag.

Uppdraget var ett volontärs jobb som projektledare på Xdins miljöskola i Nepal (CWCN) där det nu har skall påbörja bygget av ny skolbyggnad och boendehus för eleverna. Planeringen för detta har pågått under drygt ett år och nu står man i fas med att snart börja bygga.

Den som representerar Xdin på plats är John Nordström som lämnade sitt uppdrag på Volvo och CV för en ny utmaning. John har nu kommit fram i Nepal och landade i måndags efter 7 timmars förseningar i Kathmandu. Jag fick mail från honom idag där han skriver att han nu börjat komma in i det, men det är inte mycket som är som i Sverige. John kommer nu att vara i Nepal fram till mitten p ... Read More »
