GRAND OPENING AT CWCN

Nepal’s President to open the new school at Child Watabaran Center Nepal. Read more

In February 2002 Xdin started the Child Watabaran Center Nepal (CWCN) – an environmental school for street children in Kathmandu, Nepal. The purpose of CWCN is to offer Kathmandu’s street children the opportunity to choose a different life to that on the streets. The goal is re-integrate the children into a life in normal society.

Since the start in 2002 15 students have taken the huge step into living by and caring for themselves. There are more than 40 children who attend CWCN daily, which has now grown to two schools; one for boys and one for girls.
Since Christmas 2001 Xdin has not given Christmas presents to customers and employees; instead we have used the money towards further resources at CWCN, which directly makes our customers a part of, and involved in the project.

On Monday next week the new school at Child Watabaran Center Nepal will be opened. This consists of a total of 3 buildings that are used for accommodation for the boys’ and girls’ schools and an additional building for education and administration. Xdin’s John Nordström was project manager for the construction during the first half of 2008.

The Grand Opening will be performed by the President of Nepal, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, with representatives from the different sponsors in attendance. Xdin will be represented by Olof Stenlund who otherwise works as project manager for Volvo Powertrain.

Olof is a photographer and his task will apart from attending the opening, to photograph, film and interview people during next week. He will also be sitting together with CWCN and the other sponsors to plan the organization’s development. It is important to continue working towards self-sufficiency.

Olof’s thoughts ahead of his journey
It’s exciting to be able to represent Xdin at the Grand Opening at the school, and to show that Xdin still has a strong commitment. In addition to attending the opening I’ll be taking as many pictures and filming and recording just as much as I can.

One concrete idea that I want to do achieve is to shadow the “ambulance” activities for an evening in order to see things fully in action. It’s quite cool to think that the guy who’s currently driving the Tempo was only a few years ago himself one of the street children we’re now helping! This would not have been possible without Xdin’s help.

I personally have a great interest in the activities in Nepal and very much want to be involved in developing new sustainable projects and opportunities. Great focus must be made on ensuring CWCN’s self-sufficiency.

We wish Olof the best of luck on this exciting mission.
