Technological challenges
The issue of energy mix lies at the core of industry strategy. Reducing dependence on nuclear power, which provides electricity at competitive costs, will be a long-term transitional process and requires the development of alternative energy forms which, although promising (water, offshore wind), have not yet settled into an acceptable large-scale economic model. The nuclear industry is still buoyant and is driven by the development of new reactors intended either for export countries or to extend the service life of plants in countries such as France, that have opted to gradually disengage from nuclear energy. In the Oil & Gas industries, the trend is equally dynamic, due to the discovery of new difficult-to-access deposits and the development of technologies for extracting shale gas.
Study and design projects are particularly varied, enabling ALTEN to deploy services and products in areas such as maintenance and upkeep, new equipment design, major programme management, or the deployment of cross-functional skills (information systems, telecoms) for intelligent energy distribution (Smartgrids).
At the same time, ALTEN provides major oil companies with specialised high added-value services for the commissioning and operation of infrastructures, while also servicing pharmaceutical laboratories in the industrialisation and pharmacovigilance monitoring of drugs.
